Strange, I've never had that problem. Could it be your CPU or GPU? Initially, I built this mod running Win XP (32 bit) on Core 2 Duo (2.2 Ghz) and Radeon 4670 (512MB) with 3GB memory. It ran fine no "slide shows".
Now I am running Win 7 (64 bit) on Sandy Bridge i2400 and EVGA 560 ti 1GB with 8GB - works even better. Never stutters or slows down even with 15 or 20 pines on the screen.

Actually it works on Win 7 just fine. I managed to run Sentinels and Hammer and Sickle (both the games and the editor). It wasn't easy, but I figured it out. Steps I took (H&S game):
1. Installed the game
2. Installed Lorondo's fix pack (put his protect.dll and Sickle.exe in main directory) see thread @ StrategyCore/SilentStormSeries/Support/Sentinels won't start at all
3. Installed (unsupported VideoCard New Fix) see/same site/look in pinned threads
4. Made the exe run in XP sp3 compatibility mode + 256 colors
5. Ran exe as admin
6. Voila!
(Editor)
1. installed SQL server 2005 express SP3 (google it, free download)
2. installed MSDE (from S^2 CD)
3. installed Novik's editor tools
4. Changed exe compatibility to XP SP3
5. Ran exe as admin
6. Done!
I am not sure if all of the steps I described were necessary, or if it only works with english exe. Well, I guess whoever tries it will let everyone know, right?
